أصبحت البيوع الدولية عصب الحياة، فمن النادر أن تجد دولة تعتمد على مواردها
المحلية كليا، لتصريف أمورها، فالشخص الذي يعيش في العراق مثلا، يحتاج قطعا إلى
منتج صيني سواء في ملبسه أو مأكله أو تنقله، ولهذه الأسباب ولاختلاف المحيط الجغرافي
بين ولتعزيز عامل الثقة بين البائع والمشتري كان لا بد من إيجاد وسيلة تسهل التعامل
بينهما يكون فيها طرف ثالث وهو البنك وسيط في هذه العملية، وبمجرد أن يتم التوقيع
على عقد الاعتماد يستقل هذا العقد نهائيا عن عقد البيع الذي وقع عقد الاعتماد تنفيذا له،
ويستقل عقد الاعتماد كليا عن عقد البيع ولا يتأثر به إطلاقا فحتى لو أبطل عقد البيع لاحقا
يبقى عقد الاعتماد صحيح وهذا ما يطلق عليه مبدأ الاستقلال في الاعتماد المستندي
