شهد العراق خلال الثلاث عقود الاخيرة زياده كبيرة في انتاج القمح فبعد ان كان
يعاني من توفير الخبز للشعب في تسعينيات القرن الماضي توصل الى الاكتفاء الذاتي في
سنة 2020 . سبب هذا التقدم هو زيادة متوسط انتاجية الدونم من القمح بعد ان كان
250 كغم / دونم في سنة 1990 اصبح 736 كغم / دونم في سنة 2020 , يعزى سبب هذه
الزيادة في متوسط الغلة الى تحسن البذور والاسمدة والمبيدات والاساليب الحديثة في
الزراعة.وبالرغم من الاكتفاء الذاتي الذي يحققه العراق على مستوى البلد بصوره عامة الا ان
هنالك محافظات تعاني من عجز في امنها الغذائي لاسيما محافظات الثقل السكاني الاكبر
المتمثلة بمحافظات بغداد ونينوى والبصرة فضلا عن بابل وكربلاء والنجف وذي قار.

During the last three decades, Iraq witnessed a significant increase in wheat
